Gajner Palace is an incomparable "Jewel in the Thar Desert" built on the embankment of a lake by His Late Highness Maharaja Ganga Singhji of Bikaner. During winter even now, this palace with its beautiful lake and surrounded wooded areas become the home of different species of migratory birds, most renowned amongst them being the Imperial Sand Grouse.

Endangered antelopes like Black Bucks, Nilgais, Chinkaras and other animals like the Wild Boar roam freely in this area which is now a preserved sanctuary. There are 10 historic suites and 28 well appointed rooms open to travellers. Authentic game recipes have been adapted to create "Shikari" dishes out of chicken and mutton. The Laxmi Niwas Palace- a magnificent red sandstone edifice designed by Sir Swinton Jacob in the Anglo-Scenic style. This stately building, great & grand, is built around a central courtyard and is intricately carved from the skirting upto the highest dome. The stone 'jali' work (lattice ) is awesome and stunning. The motifs, floral and geometrical, leave you mesmerised. A lace- like work of stone on the edges of the entire roof was devised as a glittering crown on the head of the palace!!. The royal palace of Laxmi Niwas Palace has a gigantic principal entrance--The Clock Tower which is secured by guards and evokes memories of old grandeur and splendour

Lallgarh Place defies the bleak and rugged reality of the harsh Thar Desert around Bikaner.
The renowned architect, Sir Swinton Jacob, was commissioned for the proposed residence of the young ruler, Maharaja Ganga Singh. Initially, the palace was proposed to be finished within a lakh of rupees and further reductions in cost were suggested to be made by substituting stucco for carved stone.
But the moment Maharaja Ganga Singh got personally involved in the building exercise, all cost cutting was banished.
